It pricked my heart really
as I walked through the
Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
NAU, Awka today as I beheld
in huge numbers the candidates
for the Joint Preliminary Examinations
Board, JUPEB, attached to the university
troop out in huge numbers from the digital
library in the school as they had just commenced
their second mock examination in preparation for the
main one coming up sometime in June 2017.
From what I observed and am made to know (from
some close allies), the joint preliminary Examinations Board
programme prepares and qualifies students to be eligible to gain
admission into the university and into their various academic fields of
choice usually called the departments or disciplines of study in the universities.
Also read:
The JUPEB program is mainly for the Nigerian students and it runs over a period
of one year (i.e. one academic session) divided into semesters which are the first
and second semesters. I also noticed that the students who are candidates of this
program are not just merely secondary school leavers! These are students who had
appealed to ( You can term it 'applied to' I don't care) the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, through the UTME on several occasions but were not favoured enough to be granted admission into the universities by the board, among them also are those who have partaken in the Interim Joint Matriculation Board's program, IJMB, but were still not favoured
enough to be granted admission into the universities, among them also are those who have partaken in the various university preliminary programs such as Diploma courses, prescience et al and also, among are students from
the various higher institutions of learning
across the country who are either not satisfied
in the cage their grades have restricted them to
or better still those who believe they can do better
and are specially made for another field of study other than
the one they are now and, finally, among them are also fresh
secondary school leavers who believe they have what it takes
to skip one year in the university. These students are hopeful that
if they pass, after a successful completion of the programme to would
gain direct admissions into the second level of education in the undergraduate
scheme of the university thereby being able to skip level 100.
On my own accord, irrespective to how they may have been classified, based either
on their various walks of live or programmes they have undertaken previously, I classify
them under one basic statement, which is, "Those who are ready to make it!"
These kinds of students are not ready to give up at any cost nor say it is impossible
to get to their target destination or fulfill their mission. Such students are rare! Such students never say, "I quit" such students keep the hope of getting to their envisioned destination at the
end. They are the obstacle breakers and are not fans of impossibilities! And, I dare to ask you;
are you one of them, in the school of life? Do you believe that there are still other ways that can still open the doors of opportunities to you even when the renown ones seem to be shut before you? It is quite good to note or presume that not all these students trooping out of the library would make it into their desired fields of studies but they are still very hopeful!
Ladies and gentlemen, in this school of life we go through all year round, I am telling you these things; do the right thing and never give up. It is easy to see impossibilities before us but it is easier to ignore them! Never sit and wait for all the opportunities in the world to come knocking on your door, at times you have to go in look out for them. A dream that is what making a vision is what using efforts for it's achievement.
Never give up; hum it like a song always and
it shall manifest.
Finally, remember it was George Bernad Shaw who said and I quote, “You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’
But I dream things that never were;
and I say, ‘Why not?’”
So, learn to let go of unfavourable memories that
tramples your sight from seeing other positive
opportunities meant for you; dream big. Always remember that giving up is a big
work that requires energy in itself, use the energy
to keep standing. In so doing, the echoes of success
that are heard in some other places as the JAMB, Diploma,
JUPEB and prescience will be heard around you! not just the
echoes but the action too.
