On the 19th of March, 2017, we wake up to the NEWS update - Man Jumps Off Third Mainland Bridge by Vanguardngr of an unknown man jumping off the third mainland bridge in Lagos State, Nigeria. A lot of people had wondered what would have prompted such an act. Martin Beck Nworah was one of such people who had undertaken such laborious task to find out who or what must have prompted such an act by a well meaning Nigeria citizen.
Subsequent upon this, I have deemed it fit to showcase the story in the light that I have seen it. Which is motivation. What would have prompted Master Allwell Orji to jump into the Lagos lagoon? Almost everyone would have asked, is it magic? was it an unexplainable urge?
Here is a recap of the news. On the 19th day of March 2017, a man later identified as Dr. Allwell Orji, while travelling along the third mainland bridge in Lagos state in a Nissan Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), had asked his driver to stop at the third mainland bridge. The driver with little or no clue of what lay in wait for him and his young master did as he was told, only for the young man who was said to be 35 years of age to alight from the SUV, and the next, "fiaam!" was the sound when he went off, subsequently jumping off into the body of water.
Below is the photograph of the scene of the incident.
As shared by the news media
Martin Beck Nworah in a report titled, "Issues On Dr. Orji's Lagoon Suicide" on Odogwublog had tried to analyse the remote and immediate causes of the ungodly act.
According to Martin, after the news was released online, MBN communed with his "crack team" to come up with the following findings and attributed them to be the cause of the ill act.
- Dr. Orji was a bachelor as the time of the event
- Dr. Orji was said to have sat for a crucial examination that would enable him get promoted in his medical career but was never promoted thereafter.
- He was a sickle cell patient.
- He often had seizures too. So, a driver was hired to look after him while also driving him around
- He had attempted suicide at some point earlier in his life
- His driver was oblivion of his master's intention mostly because he was newly hired

All said and done, I want to put more emphasis on the highlighted texts.
In life most time we choose to envy people we know little about without caring to find out what internally makes them up. "I want to be a medical doctor" anyone would say, "I want to be like that person in that Utility vehicle" anyone would also say but have you cared to realize a bit of what that fellow's life is all about. Having envy for another person's achievement is not a guaranteed way to success. I am by no means saying that someone committing suicide is any means a point of inspiration to us but in everything, there is a thing to learn.
It is good to know who you really are, accept who you think best to be and work on improving more on it that using your time to envy someone else.
This is how life is; always strive to be better than who you think you have been and leave envy to it's own with time you would learn that people's outward appearance is not the only basis of evaluation. Though it's necessary.
