Significance Of The Good Friday

 02:14     No comments

Today, most christians all over the world especially the catholics observe the contested day, Good Friday. It comes during the holy week and precede Easter which is the day of celebration of the rising from the dead of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Crucifix

The 'Good Friday' is observed in most countries of the world where the catholics are located. No one knows why it is termed so but some has contested or argued that the good attached to it comes from etymological form, "God's Friday" while some would argue that it is termed so because it begets the glorious celebration of the day Christ was raised from the dead.

In all, some christians observers/ tradition would choose to use the opposite. In Germany, for example, it is termed, "Karfreitag" which means "Sorrowful Friday" while also it is referred to as Great Friday and Holy Friday in some doctrines.
The Holy Friday, is usually proclaimed a holiday in most christians countries like Nigeria.
On this day, the christians faithfuls memorize the events of that took place throughout the time Jesus Christ was subjected to worldly humiliation (according to the Holy Bible) and willfully suffered and was put to death to take away the sins of the world.
On a day like this, the churches in the christians faith are not adorned in decorations. The Crucifix bearing the body of Christ nailed to the cross hung on the alters are wrapped with sacred cloths. In most churches, like the catholic denomination today, the Divine Liturgy is not celebrated.
Christian faithfuls on this day to recall the sufferings of our Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Cavalry.
On this day, the christians faithfuls recall the suffering and death of Christ through public readings of specific Psalms and the gospels, singing of hymns about the death of Christ. In most cases, especially in Nigeria, the series of these events are acted out by the various churches' youths and faithful observes.
Your turn.

What can you say about the Good Friday? How is it going in your location? Will be participating in it today? We love to hear from our viewers.
